Lavon, Texas, is located in southeastern Collin County near the eastern shore of Lake Lavon. State Highway 78 connects the city to Wylie, Sachse and Garland, while State Highway 205 provides access to Rockwall and Interstate 30. Residents can reach the President George Bush Turnpike by following Highway 78 through Wylie and Sachse.

Lavon’s location near Lake Lavon is one of the city’s biggest attractions. The approximately 21,400-acre lake offers boating, fishing, swimming, camping and hiking at parks and recreation areas managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The city still has a more open setting than many communities closer to Dallas. At the same time, new neighborhoods, schools, businesses and planned developments are gradually adding more suburban conveniences.
Grand Heritage is one of Lavon’s defining residential communities. The master-planned development includes an amenity center, resort-style pool, splash areas, parks, playgrounds, trails and neighborhood gathering spaces. Newer communities such as LakePointe, Bear Creek and Elevon are further expanding Lavon’s selection of homes and amenities.
Lavon’s history dates to the 1850s, when settlers were drawn to the area’s Blackland Prairie and Bear Creek. The community was later named for Lavon Thompson, whose father operated the town’s post office.
Lavon is served by both Community Independent School District and Wylie Independent School District, depending on the property’s location.
Most of Lavon, including many of its larger residential developments, is served by Community ISD. The district also serves Nevada, Josephine, Copeville and surrounding portions of southeastern Collin County. Community ISD assigns students to campuses according to residential attendance zones.
Some properties within Lavon are served by Wylie ISD. Because school-district boundaries do not follow city limits or subdivision names exactly, buyers should verify the district and assigned campuses for every property they are considering.
Both districts may adjust attendance zones as enrollment grows and new campuses open.
Lavon’s shopping and dining options are primarily concentrated near the intersections of State Highway 78, State Highway 205 and FM 6. This area includes grocery shopping, restaurants, neighborhood services and a growing number of retailers.
For a wider selection, residents can travel west to Wylie for shopping and dining along Highway 78 and FM 544. Rockwall’s Interstate 30 corridor, The Harbor and Downtown Rockwall are also a short drive south on Highway 205.
