Rockwall is a lakefront city on the eastern shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, about 22 miles east of Downtown Dallas via Interstate 30. The Harbor is Rockwall’s lakefront dining and entertainment district. Its waterfront setting hosts restaurants, hotels, public gathering spaces and the city’s popular Concert by the Lake series.

Historic Downtown Rockwall offers a completely different experience. Centered around the courthouse square, downtown includes locally owned restaurants, boutiques, professional businesses and San Jacinto Plaza. Seasonal festivals, farmers markets and live music help make it a regular gathering place rather than simply a historic district.

Rockwall also maintains numerous parks and recreation facilities. Harry Myers Park includes trails, playgrounds, sports courts, a splash pad, picnic areas and a well-known disc golf course. Additional neighborhood parks, athletic facilities and trails provide plenty of opportunities to spend time outdoors.

The city’s unusual name comes from underground rock formations discovered by early settlers in the 1850s. Although the formation’s origins have been debated over the years, it became part of the community’s identity and gave both the city and county their names.

Rockwall Schools

Homes within the City of Rockwall are primarily served by Rockwall Independent School District. The district also serves nearby Heath and portions of Rowlett, Fate and unincorporated areas of Rockwall County.

Unlike Garland ISD’s choice-based system, Rockwall ISD generally assigns students according to designated attendance zones. Depending on the property’s location, students may eventually attend either Rockwall High School or Rockwall-Heath High School.

Because attendance boundaries can change as the area grows and new campuses open, buyers should verify current school assignments directly with Rockwall ISD for any home they are considering.
